Christ the King Athletic Board By-Laws
Revised December 2014
The Christ the King Athletic Board’s (CK Athletics) primary objective is to provide an opportunity for its student athletes to learn and participate in soccer, basketball, football, volleyball and golf. The objective will be met by providing a combined; competitive and instructional sports program as an extension of the Christ the King school academic program. Student participants will learn the fundamentals of each sport and be given the opportunity to develop strong, healthy and disciplined minds and bodies. Participants will also develop a sense of good sportsmanship, fair play and team spirit.
CK Athletics is concerned with the development of the WHOLE person—the religious, moral, social and academic dimensions as well as physical development. Through participation in CK Athletic Programs students may develop life-long skills and positive values. These values include leadership, healthful living habits, self-discipline, integrity, teamwork, respect for rules and regulations, and the ability to participate with dignity and grace.
Participation in these programs is contingent upon a student’s achievement in the academic, spiritual and moral areas of school life. The success of our sports program should not be measured simply by the number of games won, but rather how each individual was give the opportunity to grow as a person, teammate and athlete. The participation in the athletic program at Christ the King is a privilege and not a right.
These By-Laws were originated, compiled and revised by numerous volunteer parents and parishioners over the years to ensure the children of Christ the King School have a safe and nurturing sports experience. It has always been the intention of the past and current Board to have the most thorough and fairest by-laws possible. The wording of these by-laws was intended to be as clear as possible. Our By-Laws and Policies are structured in accordance with the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools Handbook for Athletics. It is expected without an option that the CK Athletic Board follow the “rules of the game” as they are outlined in the Archdiocese Handbook. We do understand that these By-Laws may be interpreted differently from time-to-time. Therefore it is always left to your elected Board to determine what the “spirit” of the by-law was intended to accomplish. We encourage all parents and guardians of children enrolled in Christ the King School to attend the monthly Christ the King Athletic Association meetings and consider serving on the Board in some capacity.
